- 1pm-2pm: Presentation and Q&A
- 2pm-2.30pm Networking/ Refreshments (for attendees coming in person)
Many population surveys, which have historically been conducted face-to-face, are now transitioning to alternative modes. Online modes are increasingly being used as a cost-efficient mechanism for data collection, either as a standalone mode or in combination with other modes. A key challenge for survey professionals is how to effectively implement online questionnaires without introducing avoidable measurement effects. In this Survey Futures workshop, we will present a framework that practitioners can use to identify questions that have a higher risk of measurement effects occurring. This framework can be used as desk-review tool to support questionnaire pre-testing, and includes steps researchers can take to mitigate against measurement effects. In this workshop will also present recommendations on additional design considerations that arise for all online surveys, including mobile first design, accessible formats, visual presentation, and the use of automated checks. All recommendations have been developed via a recent evidence review
This is an in-person event, but we are also investigating the possibility of making this a hybrid event so online attendance may be possible. If we set this up, we will send out the link via the Survey Futures mailing lists.
