Survey data collection faces increasing challenges, including declining response rates, higher costs, and risks to data quality. Adaptive survey designs offer a promising solution by leveraging existing data (such as paradata, administrative records, and other auxiliary sources) to adjust data collection strategies dynamically. This event brings together leading experts to discuss how diverse data sources can be integrated and used to inform adaptive designs in practice, highlighting both methodological advances and real-world applications.

The event will include four talks on the topic, followed by a discussion:

  • Using integrated non-survey data for monitoring and intervening in survey data collection — Peter Barlow, University of Manchester
  • Adaptive Survey Designs at NatCen — Alun Humphrey, National Centre for Social Research
  • Using data to drive adaptive ABOS designs — Richard Crawshaw, Verian
  • Adaptive mixed-mode survey design at Statistics Netherlands — Barry Schouten, Statistics Netherlands
  • Moderated discussion
